Landon Thompson earns the win with a complete game shutout of Bellevue
The Redmond Mustangs found a way to score three runs in the 6th inning to win the play-in game against the Bellevue Wolverines, sending Redmond to the final 4 of KingCo 3A playoffs.
The rally in the 6th began with a one out double off the bat of junior Spencer Uyematsu. Bellevue intentionally walked clean-up hitter, Yui Suzuki to set up the double play. However, senior Connor Barison also received a free pass to load the bases with one out. Designated hitter Hunter Sullivan, with two strikes on him, put the ball in play to the third baseman. However, he also hit the catcher's glove on the swing, earning a catcher's interference. All runners would be ruled safe and Redmond was up 1-0. The Mustangs added two more with a passed ball and another walk to take the 3-0 lead.
Junior Landon Thompson only needed the one run, however, as he spun a complete game shutout. He allowed four hits and struck out three. Juniors Yui Suzuki and Darek Khabani made highlight reel defensive plays to help keep the Wolverines off the board.
With the win, Redmond faces the 1 seed, Mercer Island on Thursday at Bannerwood Park at 7 pm. A win advances the Mustangs to the KingCo Championship Game. Be there to cheer them on.
