Thompson's Two-Hitter Reins In Newport 6-0

The Mustang offense put the pressure on Newport early. Starting pitcher Landon Thompson kept it up all game.

Redmond put four runs on the board in the first inning and Thompson cruised to a complete game two-hit shutout as the Mustangs beat Newport 6-0 yesterday.

The offensive outburst in which the first five Redmond batters reached base was an encouraging step for a team that had played three straight one-run games.

After Hunter Petit drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, Colin Curry jumped on the first pitch he saw and drove it deep into right field to score two more. A Duncan Warriner sacrifice fly put the Mustangs up 4-0 before Newport had a chance to bat.

The Knights had no solution for Thompson, who struck out six and didn’t surrender a hit until the fifth.

It was the second straight complete game for Redmond pitchers.

The Mustangs scored six runs on eight hits, with Yui Suzuki and Darek Khabani collecting two each. RBIs by Dustin Lennon-Jones and Uyematsu rounded out the scoring.

Redmond faces Skyline on Thursday after today’s game was postponed by weather and will travel to Bothell on Friday.
