A double by Yui Suzuki scored Mitchell Tiglon and sparked an 8-run outburst in the bottom of the 5th inning as Redmond pulled away to an 8-1 win over Cedarcrest today at the newly renovated Redmond High School baseball field.
Ben Chenevert earned the victory on the hill for Redmond. He surrendered one run on one hit over three innings, striking out three and walking one.
Chenevert helped his cause at the plate with two hits, including an RBI double.
Neither team mustered much offense until the 5th. Redmond starter Duncan Warriner held Cedarcrest to one hit and no runs over three innings, striking out four.
The Red Wolves broke through with a run against Chenevert in the top of the 5th on a single, hit by pitch, and an error before catcher Tristan Rosell and shortstop Spenser Uyematsu combined on a big inning-ending double play.
Redmond answered in the bottom of the inning when Tiglon walked, Chenevert singled, and Suzuki doubled to tie the score at 1-1. Colin Curry singled to drive in the go-ahead run, and a wild pitch and error led to two more Redmond scores. A sacrifice fly by Ryan Rembisz put the Stangs up 5-1, and RBI doubles by Tiglon and Chenevert capped the scoring at 8-1.
The Mustangs wrap up the preseason at home versus Kentwood on March 13 at 6 p.m. before beginning KingCo 4A play on March 18 against Eastlake.
