The Bellevue Wolverines once again walked away from a game with the Redmond Mustangs with a one run victory, this time 2-1.
Mustang starter David Gibons battled through four innings, striking out seven and walking two. He allowed to runs on four hits, one run in the second and one run in the third. Sophomore reliever Landon Thompson came on to pitch three scoreless innings to keep the Wolverines in reach.
In the bottom of the 7th, the Mustangs tried to rally. Lead-off pinch-hitter Noa Astorga got on with an infield single. Two ground ball outs later, Jack Vonderhaar stepped to the plate, doubling to right-center scoring the first and only run for the Mustangs as the next hitter's flare was caught by the Bellevue shortstop.
Redmond holds a slim lead over the Lake Washington Kangaroos for 3rd place. As is fitting, the Mustangs travel to the Kangaroos on Monday night at Lee Johnson at 7 pm. Come on out and support your Mustangs.
