Jack Vonderhaar and David Gibons team up to lead Mustangs to victory over Rebels

The Redmond Mustangs found themselves in yet another pitcher's duel, this time with the Juanita Rebels. This time, however, the Mustangs found a way and left Lee Johnson field on Friday night with a big 1-0 conference win.

The lone run was scored in the second inning. After senior David Gibons was issued a four pitch walk, junior Bradley Cagle came on to run for Gibons. Blake Steckler then laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt which was followed by a hard-hit single to right by Jack Vonderhaar. The clutch hit would score Cagle from 2nd giving the Mustangs the only run they would need on the night.

That is because Gibons was once again dealing on the mound. The big right-hander had his full compliment of pitches working in his 6 1/3 innings. All told, he only allowed four hits while striking out seven and not allowing a walk. Senior Blake Steckler struck out the final two Juanita hitters to preserve the victory for the Mustangs.

Redmond (5-3), now alone in third place in KingCo 3A, hosts the Liberty Patriots (4-4) at Hartman Park on Monday at 6 pm. Come on out and show your support to help the Mustangs to keep things rolling in the right direction!
