Yui Suzuki, Jack Vonderhaar, and David Gibons combine for five hits and four RBI
Redmond Mustang starting pitcher Connor Barison finally received some much needed run support as the Mustangs downed the Saints 6-3 on Wednesday at Interlake High School.
The scoring didn't occur until the 5th inning when sophomore Yui Suzuki lined a single to right to score Jack Vonderhaar and give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Just after that Alex Astorga lifted a sac fly to center for a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Mustangs couldn't hold the lead as Interlake plated three runs in the bottom half of the frame. The Mustangs responded in kind with two outs in the 6th. After David Gibons singled and Bradley Cagle came on to pinch-run, Vonderhaar lifted a double to deep left scoring Cagle all the way from first. Vonderhaar was also able to score following an errant throw to third from the catcher. Redmond would add two more runs in the 7th to cushion their lead to 6-3.
Barison, for his part, tossed six strong innings, striking out 11 and allowing three runs (two earned). Senior Dylan Woodbury came on in the 7th to get the final three outs and collect the save.
The second half of KingCo 3A play begins on Friday as Redmond (4-3) heads to Lee Johnson at 7 pm to take on the Juanita Rebels (3-3). Currently, Redmond sits in third place behind Mercer Island and Bellevue.
