Senior Blake Steckler's first outing of the season was a strong one.
The Redmond Mustangs once again could not support a fine performance from their starting pitcher, losing to Mercer Island 4-0. Senior Blake Steckler, in his first start of the season, pitched five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks.
The damage was done, however, in the second inning as Mercer Island's Corey Smith hit a homerun just over the right-field fence at Hartman Park. That was later followed by a clutch two out, two RBI single from the Islander third baseman, Greg Fuchs. MI would add another solo homerun in the 6th off sophomore reliever Landon Thompson who was making his first varsity outing. That would be the only run Thompson allowed in two innings of work.
Redmond could only muster five hits on the night while striking out seven times. Any offensive threat was quickly squashed by the Mercer Island defense.
Redmond looks to get back on track on Wednesday against the Interlake Saints at Interlake High School at 4:30 pm. Come on out and support your Stangs!
