Bradley Cagle, David Gibons, and Blake Steckler lead the Mustangs over LW
The Redmond Mustangs held off a late rally on Friday night to fend off the visiting Lake Washington Kangaroos by a score of 8-2.
Redmond's starting pitcher David Gibons was in control much of the night. In five innings of work, the senior right-hander held the Kangaroos scoreless only allowing two hits and two walks. He struck out seven. However, the 6th inning got a bit treacherous for the Mustangs as the Kangaroos loaded the bases with one out off of two different Mustang relievers. Lake Washington took advantage of four free passes in the inning and were able to score two runs. However, Redmond called on senior Blake Steckler to stymie the rally and he did just that in getting the final out of the inning on a pop out to third base. He then struck out the side in the 7th secure the win.
Gibons also starred on the offensive side as he was 1-3 with two clutch RBI. He also had help from junior Bradley Cagle who had two RBI of his own on two hits.
The win moves the Mustangs to 3-2 in KingCo play in a logjam for third with the Kangs and Juanita. Redmond hosts the first place Islanders of Mercer Island on Monday night at Hartman Park at 7 pm. Be there!
